HIV IS NOT A CRIME
    OUR WORK
On June 18th, 2020, The Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation (ETAF) announced a new national initiative focused on the modernization of criminal laws and penalties for people
living with HIV. The effort launched in partnership with Gilead Sciences, Inc., and a national alliance of advocacy partners
– The Health Not Prisons Collective, including The Counter Narrative Project, Positive Women’s Network, The Sero Project, Transgender Law Center, and the US People Living with HIV Caucus. ETAF is partnering with state-based organizations as needed to ensure the initiative’s success. In 2020, we focused on 3 states- Nevada, Missouri, and Ohio to modernize their laws and criminal penalties for people living with HIV/AIDS.
On June 25th, 2020, ETAF brought together leading experts and activists in the modernization of laws and penalties affecting people living with HIV for a town hall about why it’s time for the law to catch up with science. It was moderated by Emmy Award- winning journalist and co-host, ABC’s “The View”, Sunny Hostin.
Our first True (Not) Crime episode was released on December 14, 2020 featuring Robert Suttle, Chair, ETAF’s Council of HIV Justice Leaders on his first-hand experience of HIV criminalization with Zachary Quinto as the narrator.
