August 1, 2019: CSCS Monthly Cost Update
Our updated forecast indicates a .8% favorability in the
Market Basket for full year 2019 versus full year 2018. This is a
slight improvement of .1% from our July update.
This improvement is being driven by continuing favorable costs of Shell Eggs, with some offset from
a higher forecasted cost for Bacon.
Overall year-over-year favorability continues to be driven by lower Beef and Egg costs, as well as
the move to Concentrate Orange Juice. Improved favorability in Egg costs has essentially negated
the increases we have experienced (and forecast this year) on higher Pork costs.
Based on your August cost of ingredients at 100, we forecast the remainder of the year at 100.875
(not mix adjusted).
We are currently developing our forecast for 2020 and will share at the GFC in early October.
For August, you will see increases of up to 4% for Butter and Cheeses and a slight increase for
Ground Beef. You will see more significant decreases, led by 2 to 10% on Pork items as markets
retreat and another 8% decrease in Shell Eggs costs.
