Welcome

GCSEs at Kingham Hill School

Although many of you will have faced important tests before, GCSEs will be the foundation of your
future – the first thing you do at school that will stay on your record for the rest of your life. GCSEs
are your entry ticket to Sixth Form or to college, and will play a key role in whether or where you go
to university. Then when you apply for a job, your potential employer will ask for your GCSE results
(among other things) so you can be compared to other applicants. If this seems daunting, it is. The
choices you will make in the next few months are important, and you need to arm yourself with the
knowledge to make these decisions in a sensible and informed way.

This document is a starting point. In it you will find information about the range of GCSEs on offer
here at Kingham Hill. You will all study the core subjects of English, Mathematics and Science, and
then choose up to five additional choices from a variety of optional subjects.

Whilst this prospectus is the start of your decision-making process, it certainly should not be the
end of it. Talk to your teachers and tutors in the coming weeks; they will have good advice for you
regarding your combination of subjects. If you or your parents would like any more information
