AN INTERVIEW WITH THE PROUD HOMEOWNERS OF 13 COVLEE DRIVE

WHAT MADE YOU FALL IN LOVE WITH 13 COVLEE DRIVE?

Location, location, location! One of the most beautiful places I had ever seen in Ct. The school
system is beyond all expectations and extremely important to a family with 5 children in the system.
The passing of our beloved parents is the only catalyst that has ever brought a sale of this property into
             consideration.

PLEASE DESCRIBE THE RENOVATION PROCESS ...
This home has had 2 additions, first the separate living area with it's own bath and kitchen and basement with
office, guest, extra sleeping or hobby area and add storage. Later on the sunny family room and extra deck area
were added and enjoyed immensely. At that time the home was put on city sewer system and septic was evacuated.
Electrical system was also up graded and shortly after the new roof was installed and dock rebuilt.

DID YOU EVER CONSIDER PUTTING IN A POOL?

Never thought about it! Lived in the water as it was. The lagoon used to be land-locked (no channel to the sound).
Then, we used to get thick ice for ice skating, hockey, and Ice sailing. In summers, we would water ski a lot. Then,
when the channel opened, the skiing had to stop, but then the rest of the water sports, including fishing boomed.

         WILL YOU MISS THE NEIGHBORS?
Our annual family gatherings and extended family annual picnics will be very much missed as will the wonderful
neighbors and friends and Covelee Association gatherings. The seasonal lobster and clam feeds are attended
            with great pleasure.

TELL ME ABOUT THE GROUNDS ...

East-Facing (Sunrises & Moon Rises above the water). Also, the fact that there are no utility poles and wires on
the water side of the house leaves a totally unobstructed view. Growing up without them in view makes me
notice them right away from many other home sites.

WHAT MAKES YOUR LOT SO SPECIAL?

The safe deep water storm shelter is unmatched in the area and numerous water related activities have
always given me great pleasure .The natural high ground above the 500 year flood plane has been a
real comfort when surrounding areas were evacuated and we were untouched. The east west exposure
cannot be mentioned enough. It is so wonderful to see the moon come up in the east and steam across
the lagoon, so beautiful. Then of course you have warm sunny morning coffee and breakfast on the deck
and afternoon shade as the sun moves west. The best of all worlds.
Being on high ground, (... at least 4-7 feet above every address checked east of us in Saugatuck Shores
area) never been flooded, sheltered from heavy wave action in storms because we are blocked from the
waves by the rest of the Saugatuck Shores. We don't even get the full effect of wind-driven surges because
the lagoons channel is located at the west end rather than the east, and from about 1 foot above low tide,
wind-driven surge from the sound, coming down the channel, flows across into the Norwalk marsh area and
continues around the west side of Canfield Island, back into Long Island Sound. All the time during the usual
east to west storm winds, the wind is blowing toward the channel, and ultimately the marsh, from the closed,
sheltered end of the lagoon, actually 'lowering' our water level more than if it was light wind.

IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE YOU WOULD LIKE TO MENTION?
Since 1960, water has risen about 6 inches above our seawall, even with the level of our dock's surface. This means
that the water never came closer than about 40 feet from the house, except where the boat ramp area juts into the
lawn. But this was still well away from the house's foundation.
