The Defence Innovation Hub is a core part of this transformation and will drive coherent

time, Defence has a single innovation development program focused squarely on
translating Australian ideas into practical capability. Through the Hub, the government
will invest $640 million over the decade to support Australian industry and research
organisations to mature and accelerate the development of defence technologies.
The government will also invest $730 million over the decade in the Next Generation
Technologies Fund (NGTF), to be launched in early 2017. The NGTF and the Defence
Innovation Hub will work in concert with each other, as the signature research and
development programs within the new Defence innovation system.
This is a once in a generation opportunity to transform Defence’s innovation system
into a more closely aligned partnership matching current and future industry and
research sector capability with Defence’s capability needs.
