A Bird with No Wings
Once I was a bird full of freedom, always swinging my wings, doing whatever I wanted in my earlier life. But
can you guess what that bird was dreaming about? It was a teenage life.
Since I was 8, I have had a great interest in movies about teenagers. Highschool drama, love life, friendship,
troublemakers and so on. The poor little bird was so excited to become one of those “cool” teenagers and
make life more interesting. However, it didn’t go as I planned.
As soon as I turned 12, I thought I’m in the most wonderful period of life. I expected everyone would see me
as a mature person. I expected school would be full of drama and fun things. I thought I could do anything
I wanted and could make problems. But it all turned out to be a lie.
The only thing I got in my precious teenage life was “responsibility”. “Look after your brother or he will get
hurt!”, “If you get a grade below B, you will become homeless”, “You can’t be tired when grown-ups are
working hard to feed you” … They treated me as a kid and expected me to act like an adult.
Aside from that, the school that I’d always imagined as my dream castle turned out to be a place that eats all
my energy. Every night I had to stay awake until 3am just to finish my homework. I was exhausted and
burnt out. Then one day, I realized that I’d lost my wings. What happened to that bird full of freedom and
happiness? What made it change into a soulless creature? The answer was not adults, but society.
Society was like a merciless monster that everyone fears. It was the only thing that created insecurities,
depression, and other mental illnesses in people. So, I’ve promised myself. No one should be another victim
of this monster. We should not cut each other’s wings by destroying their spirit. We should also grow our
wings back by fighting against the monster and supporting each other. We only have one life, so we should
not waste it by trying too hard to fit in “society”.
We are perfect in our own way.
