Empty Brain Syndrome
If it weren't for mystery novels, I never would've made it through life. Also, I can honestly say I never figure out who the culprit was. I'm always surprised when the best friend or the kindly nun turns out to be an ax murderer. I think "gullible" is the word I'm looking for.
It's night time here in Chiangmai and people are worried about the caronavirus. In my lifetime there have been so many threats to the world--nuclear war, fascism, communism, terrorism, WW II, Korea, Vietnam, polio, rogue asteroids, earthquakes, tsunamis, etc.--that I have become kind of immune. It's like I've been vaccinated against disaster and it no longer affects me until the moment an asteroid obliterates the planet. There could definitely be a pandemic and this could be it, but it's like Donald Trump. It came, I could do nothing about it, so I'll get on with my life. I doubt if I'll take any trips to China though.
The big thing here in Chiangmai is that it's killing a lot of businesses. Thailand is a big tourist destination for the Chinese and the virus has dried that up completely. Our winter is wonderfully cool and mild and it is the high season for tourism. People come from all over the world to tour, hit the beaches, play golf, and buy stuff. It starts in late September and ends around March. Well, it's ending early this year and low season is going to be extra tough on Thai people. The good news is that Thai people handle adversity really well.
This morning we woke up at 6 a.m. and the plan was to take Jintana to breakfast and then to a friend's house. She and four of her old school classmates are going to a funeral in Lampang. I think it will be a very social trip for them.
