Preamble
Telegram is a popular instant messaging app founded by Russian entrepreneur Pavel Durov. It is very much like
WhatsApp and it is slated to be the nearest competitor to WhatsApp in a few years. You can send messages,
photos, videos, audio, stickers, and files of any type.
Despite the fact the code for the latest version is not published immediately, it does publish APIs for independent
developers and therefore, Telegram is sure to offer various interesting features in the future that WhatsApp
cannot afford to.
The growth of the app is 50% annually which is beyond expectations. Telegram is constantly upgrading its
features and new programming languages and the current version uses Node-JS, Express, and MongoDB in the
backend.
The best part of Telegram is that it is open-source and bot-friendly allowing thousands of programmers to
bring new tools that may raise the value of it and the satisfaction of users. On this background, our team has
been created and from this point on we took over and we set the foundation the idea of inventing the online
group learning when it comes to foreign languages. An idea that has never been materialized. The one
connecting millions of people through education. The real one. The living one.
Identification of the need
Social platforms allowed today a huge opportunity for peer learning by creating groups for virtually any topic.
Basically, any person can set up such a group. In terms of language learning, there are tens of thousands of such
groups on Facebook, WhatsApp, Discord, various forums. The number of users reaches in some case over
100.000 users. It is evident there is a need and a high request to learn foreign languages in such setup. However,
existing setup cannot ensure a real learning experience due to the following shortcomings:
• No possibility for constant and immediate feedback. Someone may ask something and get an answer
during a few seconds or a few days depending on the dynamic of the group. This cause frustration and
downgrades the motivation of being part of such groups;
• No control on the quality if feedback received. People may reply but there is generally no authority to
validate the answer therefore there is a lot of uncertainty in relation to the quality control. This does not
guarantee, and it is not a basis for good learning;
• No real time moderation of these groups. There is no possibility to fight against spam as most of the
systems they do not offer IT tools to counter it, preferring to let the users decide if this is a spam and be
reported as such;
• No methodology behind, nor syllabus or curricula. Only thing which is done now is exchanging messages
and offer quick fixes but no strategic approach to learning and no finality in terms of teaching. In other
words, there is no systematic group learning;
• No certification or recognition of learning. It means again no finality or further use of any competence
achieved;
• No guarantee on the real intention of the group owners. Most of these groups are partner pick-up decks
or a deck for the admins to invite people to join private paid lessons.
The alternative of the social platforms if to follow self-learning-based applications such as Duolingo, Fluentu,
Rosetta Stone. All these are good solutions for this type of learning. However, they have serious limitations such
as:
• Limited or no possibility to get feedback except the automatic one delivered by the system as the primary
purpose is mainly to learn vocabulary;
• Limited or no possibility to get deeper into the grammar aspects due to the reason explained above;
