Preventive Maintenance
Chapter 6: General Procedures
Preventive Maintenance
WARNING:
Only facility-authorized personnel should perform preventive
maintenance on the MedPlus TotalAlert™ Alarm Network. Preventive
maintenance performed by unauthorized personnel could result in
personal injury or equipment damage.
The MedPlus TotalAlert™ Alarm Network requires an effective maintenance
program. We recommend that you perform bi-annual preventive maintenance
(PM) and testing for Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare
Organizations (JCAHO). PM and testing not only meet JCAHO requirements
but will help ensure a long, operative life for the MedPlus TotalAlert™ Alarm
Network. PM will minimize downtime due to excessive wear.
The following PM schedule guides you through a normal PM procedure on the
MedPlus TotalAlert™ Alarm Network. During this PM process, check each
item on the schedule, and make the necessary adjustments.
Two effective ways to reduce downtime are keeping close records and
maintaining the MedPlus TotalAlert™ Alarm Network.
The MedPlus TotalAlert™ Alarm Network is designed to operate reliably with
a minimum amount of scheduled maintenance. Components, such as the LEDs,
and the vacuum fluorescent display, are used to provide visual indication and
have been chosen for their extended service life. As a result, no replacement of
components is necessary unless a problem is identified during regularly
scheduled testing.
When the MedPlus TotalAlert™ Alarm Network Conversion Kit—Area
Alarms have transducers inside the rough-in box, check the hoses on the
transducer assemblies annually for cracking, wear, or leakage.
