Chapter 6: General Procedures
Preventive Maintenance Schedule
Permanent records of all test results for alarm systems should be made at the
time of installation and at all required intervals as specified by NFPA 99 (see
table 6-1 on page 6-31).
Table 6-1. Preventive Maintenance Schedule
Function Procedure
Gas pressures Check the readings on the area alarm module
digital displays daily.
Audible alarm signals Test once a month by pressing the test keys on
each front panel (see “Master Alarm Self-Test”
on page 2-5), (see “Area Alarm Self-Test” on
page 2-6), and (see “Local Alarm Self-Test” on
page 2-7).
Visual alarm signals Test once a month by pressing the test keys on
each front panel (see “Master Alarm Self-Test”
on page 2-5), (see “Area Alarm Self-Test” on
page 2-6), and (see “Local Alarm Self-Test” on
page 2-7).
Transducer visual indicators Inspect once a month (see “Transducer” on
page 2-11).
Alarm system components Check every alarm component for wear.
Power and signal wiring Inspect all wiring for good condition.
Electrical connections Check all electrical connections for tightness,
and tighten as needed.
Gas hoses (on local-mount transducers) Inspect hoses for cracking, wear, collapse, or
leakage annually.
General appearance Check cleanliness. Clean if necessary, see
“Cleaning” on page 6-28.
