   TORY POPLOE
Q: What inspired you to start making beats?
A: I have always been into music since I was a kid. I played trumpet and French horn in band. I even got a band scholarship to go to Shaw University. Around the age of 12 I pieced together my own dj set. Now that I look back, it was a horrible set up, but it worked.
Q: How would you describe your sound?
A: I'm all over the place with it. One day I'm making boom bap, next day jazz, reggae, spanish calypso, even hip hop gospel. I'm just a lover of music.
Q: With so many other producers in the game making waves, how do you keep your sound fresh?
A: I do me. I don't really think about the other producers. I just make music with no expiration date, so it doesn't matter when it comes out.
Q: Who were some of your influences early on?
A: I would say Rick Rubin, Marley Marl, Pete Rock, Large Professor. All of the old cats. I don't have a sampler, so I would try and play everything and make it sound like a sample. It never had that sound, but I rocked with it!
Q: Let's flip the subject for a minute. I know that you're also into Real Estate. Is producing or flipping houses a better source of income?
A: At the moment I would say Real Estate. Everyone needs a roof over their head, so you will always make money. With producing, there is a lot of competition. Artists will choose a wack beat because it's cheap, and go with that. I make art in my production, and there is value in it.
Q: I also heard that you turned down a deal. Why is it important for you to stay independent?
A: Everyone and their mama has a label now. I look at it like this. If I create the product, and have it ready to be distributed, what do I need you for? You want to sign me, but nothing is being offered. I can make more in the long run by having complete ownership of my product.
Q: In your opinion, who are the Top 3 rappers from Virginia?
A: I'm a little biased on this, and I'm not familiar with a lot of new talent here. I would go with Bigshotmanceeni, Nottz Raw, and Boogieman.
Q: Where can people find your beats? A: You can go to my IG page daloniousmonk757.
Q: Alright my G, we really appreciate you coming through and showing us love. Anybody you wanna shout out?
A: Everybody!!
