  1. BEST PRACTICES: SOFT PLASTIC
1L. Personal Protection Equipment - It is very common for our production sites to find gloves, sleeves, ear
plugs, band aids and other PPE when receiving products from our suppliers. It is recommended that materials that are in high risk/open product areas be restricted and evaluated. When available, metal detectable PPE should be used.
  • The use of metal detectable band aids and ear plugs are recommended. Also, earplugs should have a string between them to prevent from falling as easily as a single untethered earplug. Material of construction & dimensions should be appropriate to the application (i.e. thermal process specifications, formulation considerations, chopping, etc.)
• Glove/Sleeve inspection- Implementing a glove inspection periodically mitigates the risk of torn or missing gloves/glove pieces that may contaminate production.
• All materials allowed in a production area should be identifiable, signed out/registered and tethered (if possible), have a designated area, and be part of the pre- and post-inspection checklist.
