Volunteering Can Build Lifelong Friendships
Many of the CCNB volunteers enjoy amazing connections with those that they support, and have built friendships that will last a lifetime.
For one female volunteer in her mid 80's connected with a gentleman of a similar age, they enjoy weekly coffee or lunch and text message each other several times a week. The volunteer has supported the gentleman to stay sober (mostly) and reconnect with his estranged family. She has also encouraged him to not cause too much trouble in the Residential Aged Care Home where he resides - which is sometimes challenging! We have been told (independently by both of them) that they feel like soul mates!
