Congratulations to the Class of 2020
Greenfield School sent 18 seniors from the class of 2020 on their way
rejoicing Monday, June 1st, at its 47th annual commencement exercises,
in the most distinctive graduation in the history of Greenfield! Mr. Glenn
Griffin, Upper School English teacher, gave the commencement address.
Due to COVID-19, Greenfield’s administration quickly began evaluating options
to provide the Class of 2020 with a graduation exercise. For nearly two months, the
administration went through many different scenarios, consulting with local officials
and the CDC to come up with some form of graduation. Plans came together and
the Class of 2020 experienced a unique “parade” through campus in front of many
families, faculty and staff who lined the driveway holding signs of congratulations and
sporting their Greenfield regalia.
Each student was then called to the stage through the radio station, 99.3, as family
and friends listened, and were able to walk across, receive their diploma and have
their photograph taken before getting back in their vehicle. At the conclusion of
the presentation of diplomas, the seniors then took a “victory” lap back around
campus, enjoying the cheers, honks and waves from all the attendees who were there
to celebrate their accomplishments and how hard they all worked to get there. A
professional video was created of the whole experience so every senior will have a
record of this unprecedented graduation to keep forever!
