Solar Energy
As The UAE is a desert country it has an abundance of sunlight the entire year, thus
solar energy has become an easily accessible choice for the UAE, and ultimately
become the most popular type of sustainable energy in the UAE. “The UAE was
ranked third in the world in the production of concentrated solar power (CSP) in
2013. In 2014, roughly 140 MW of solar power was being generated in the UAE.” -
(Government.ae - Solar Energy.) The development of sustainable energy in the UAE in
the form of Solar Energy has been very successful and a large quantity of solar
energy facilities have already been planned and established in the UAE.
SHAMS - Dubai, was a DEWA initiative launched back in March of 2013 and is “the
world's largest CSP plant” - (Government.ae, Solar energy). The plant can produce
enough power to power 20,000 homes in the UAE, and it can stop over 175,000
tonnes of carbon dioxide from entering the atmosphere due to the amount of energy
it would save.
The Concentrated Solar Power project is a large scale project that has been
conceptualized, it is supposed to be the largest solar energy plant in the world. It is
said that it will produce more than 150 MW of energy and will aim to slash more than
6.5 million tonnes of harmful carbon emissions in the UAE.
Masdar city is a large scale project that was initialized in 2006 and is set to become a
city in the UAE completely powered by forms of renewable energy.
