Upcycled Makes
Upcycling is great for the environment,
but who knew it could look so good? Penelope Quinn’s project takes
a plain straw bag and turns it into a vibrant, on-trend tote, complete with pom-poms, tassels and a bright felt flower. “This is a fantastic project for using up
all those spare bits
of embellishments
in your sewing kit,” Penelope says. We think Penelope's dog Molly looks adorable sporting the felt flower, too!

1Make or buy enough pom-poms in various colours of yarn to cover the top lip of the bag. For
a consistent shape and size, use
a pom-pom maker. With the same colour of yarn, sew the pom-poms onto the bag until they feel secure.
Sew embellishments such
as pom-pom strings, rope, sequin strings or decorative ribbon around the outer edge of the
bag using a small running stitch.

of an inner petal four times. While holding tight with your fingers, use the hot glue gun
to apply a strip of glue to the fold. Hold the petal onto the centre of the flower until cool. Use around five inner petals and then add the larger petals.
From green felt, cut out two
