ater this. Water that. There’s no denying
that when it comes to water, it’s a seri-
ous issue in desert communities like
Southern Nevada. News stories are con-
W stant about the ongoing drought, the
need for water conservation, lowering Lake Mead levels,
and other water-related issues. While golf course superin-
tendents have much more to do than solely focus on water,
the topic is always front and center.
Members of the Southern Nevada Golf Course
Superintendent’s Association (SNGCSA) work diligently as
they balance keeping our courses green while preserving
and conserving water whenever possible. “Both the national
and local superintendent chapters are as responsible as pos-
sible with water use and are at the forefront of the ongoing
issue,” says Greg Neindorf, Shadow Creek superintendent
and president of the SNGCSA. “We do anything that we can
to let the public know that golf courses are responsible with
water and use a very small percentage of the total allotment
in Southern Nevada. And furthermore, a lot of golf courses
use effluent (runoff waste) water—not many people realize
that. It’s important to understand that the majority of the
overall total usage of fresh water is coming from residential
