IN THE BIZ

of Elite Golf) and I went down there and saw it was a good
layout. They just didn’t have anyone to care for it.” That all
changed when Elite brought in a staff, worked diligently on
putting the course back together, and then helped open a
revamped product in April of 2021.
Hunter says the smiles on the faces of golfers tells the tale.
“The people in that community are unbelievably ecstatic
with how the course came out. When I’m down there they
throw out words like miracle. But I tell them the miracle is
they cared enough to raise all that money to make it hap-
pen. We were just there to help.”

In the end, Flatt and Hunter were just glad to get that phone
call. “It was a great experience for us,” he says. “This is
something people don’t know about Elite Golf: We have
never gone into a golf course that was making money. Our
job has been to go in and make them sustainable for the
future.” Count Mission Royale Golf Club is another satis-
fied customer. “It’s because we care about the owners and
the golf courses. When we go into a project we go in and do
everything we can to help them be successful. If they suc-
        ceed, we’ve succeeded.”

Moelis says getting help from Elite Golf took a lot of pres- BEFORE
sure off everyone. “Our first thought was ‘maybe we don’t AFTER
need a manager,’” Moelis says with a chuckle. “But then
we realized none of us had ever run a golf course.” When
they hired Elite Golf, Moelis says the pressure quickly went
away. “They showed us the light. They also helped us with
the purchase and how much money we could afford to put
in. Hiring them was the best decision we ever made.”

But Moelis was quick to point out that before the comeback
of the course, there were plenty of sleepless nights. “There
was a lot of pressure. If you make a mistake with your
money that’s OK because it’s your money. This time, it’s a
lot of money from other people and that put a tremendous
amount of responsibility for us to make the right decisions.”
