X-ray is the oldest and often used method of medical
imaging. Peering into the human body is a common,
every day procedure at Valley Immediate Care.
The x-rays are electromagnetic energy similar to
visible light, radio waves and microwaves. They are just
more penetrating. Instead of using ﬁlm which had to be

“processed’’ with chemicals, the images are now recorded
digitally.
These digital capturing systems have 5 main
advantages these include:
1. Speed.
2. Low exposure. The amount of x-ray our patients now
receive has been reduced to less than 10% of the amount

they received with a ﬁlm capture system.
3. Detail. Both bone and soft tissue can be
appreciated because contrast and density can be
manipulated as needed for each image
4. No darkroom and chemistry.
5. Portability. X-ray images are now viewed
electronically and can be accessed by multiple
providers at the same moment.
Like most other advances in medical technology,
Radiology or Medical Images continues to reinvent itself.
It has been exciting to watch the advances in digital
imaging and we are excited to see further advancements
in the coming years
