ART AND SOUL ASHLAND

Art and Soul Ashland is a new gallery…sort of. When the previous gal-
lery, Art and Soul, closed last December, member Kathy Morawiec and
her husband, John, wanted to keep the space available for artists to show
their work. They became owners, retaining the name as a nod to a gal-
lery that has existed for 23 years and adding “Ashland” to honor the
community. In fact, the gallery has had several owners, six of whom
remain relevant artists.

Kathy is an oil painter, but didn’t discover art as a child. “I was a late
bloomer in the art world.” She was an accountant, raised her family, and
when the kids went off to college, she tried painting. “I fell in love with
it, and now I paint most days,” she says. She recently hosted a showing
of her work, birds painted in a representational abstract style. John, an
instructional pilot, helps behind the scenes and lent invaluable assistance
during the gallery’s remodel.

Currently, 26 artists are showing, all from Southern Oregon, a good
percentage from the prior gallery, plus new artists. Variety abounds –
watercolor, oil, acrylic, two photographers (one specializing in black
and white), and a potter. Waiting in the wings – no pun intended – is
sculptor Stefan Savides, known for his astounding birds.

Art and Soul Ashland is open every day but Monday and participates in
the community’s First Friday Artwalk.
