Along with their Medford showroom, Smokin’
Barrel Works takes part in yearly events around the
valley, sells online through smokinbarrelworks.com
and through an Etsy shop. Huycke’s work can be seen
in businesses and tasting rooms around the valley
including the Co-Op. Their Instagram gallery show-
cases their latest projects, and they’re always ready
to discuss custom designs. “People have asked me to
build some pretty crazy things,” laughs Huycke.
“It’s really all custom work because each barrel is
different,” says Huycke. Beyond the individuality of
each wine barrel, customers can also choose from
three finished heights for their fire pits or fire tables
(half, three-quarter, or full barrels), five stain fin-
ishes, and a variety of fire pit fill, including colored
or clear fire glass, lava rock, sand, fire logs, or even
water. The fire pits can also be customized with
glass windscreens, and castors or handles for port-
ability. Their furniture and décor designs also feature
reclaimed wood and metal for uniquely constructed
pieces suited for both indoor and outdoor use.
“You can build anything out of a wine barrel,” says
Huycke, and Smokin’ Barrel Works’ showroom is
proof of the imagination and artisanship that goes
into their products. From their staple wine barrel
fire pits and tables to guitar stands, lighting fixtures,
chairs, and home décor, Huyke is always imagining
new ways to reuse the warmth and natural advan-
tages of reclaimed wood.
“People always ask how I came up with the idea, I tell
them I was just living on the beach and wanting a fire
pit for our place, for that idea, to turn into a business
and career is pretty awesome.”
