P. 8
FROM OUR CHAIRMAN: GARY GROTE
Not a day goes by without a headline citing a labor shortage as
a headwind for economic growth in our state. As skills training
becomes a higher priority for educators and employers, let us not
forget the importance of financial literacy in that training effort. It
is critical that we provide our youth a sound foundation of basic
economic principles to help them make good financial choices.
The Nebraska Council on Economic Education assists classroom
teachers by providing creative and practical applications that bring
economic education to life for students. This will mark the third year
of presenting a series of financial literacy rock concerts to middle
and high school students. The Council also continues to provide
nationally-recognized programs like The Stock Market Game and
The Personal Finance Challenge.
The past year was particularly noteworthy, as Nebraska hosted the
National Personal Finance Challenge for the second year in a row.
Over the past year, the Council reached over 18,000 students through
over 100,000 contact hours. The Council’s Executive Committee is
committed to expanding our reach to ensure that Nebraska’s council
continues to lead the nation in financial literacy efforts.
