ABSTRACT
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the Overall Equipment Efficiency (OEE)
initiatives towards improving manufacturing performance in cable manufacturing
industry. The organizational context of the study was Orange Electricals, Meegoda. The
research was focused upon the significant contributions of OEE implementation success
factors. There were five criteria mainly focused in this study such as start-up loss, setup
and adjustment loss, minor and idling loss, machine breakdown loss and shout down loss.
Comprehensive review of literature was incorporated on this topic. Data were collected
through production log sheets. Data were statistically analyzed using correlation and
multiple regression analysis using SPSS Statistics 17.0 software. According to the analysis
output it can be concluded that start-up loss, setup and adjustment loss, minor and idling
loss, machine break down loss as significant factors. Since the highly impacted factor was
minor and idling loss, launching training and awareness programs and the introduction of
autonomation instead of automation were identified as appropriate solutions. By avoiding
these losses, the manufacturing process can be improved since these are high time
consuming activities.
