VILLAGES TOGETHER
Villages Together is is a a a a a a a a a social group who meet monthly on on on a a a a a a a a a Tuesday afternoon at at 1 45 in Mattersey Church Hall It is is open to anyone from any any of the the rural communities and villages around the the area We organise interesting speakers on on on a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a range of subjects plan visits out out have meals out out occasionally and occasional informal social afternoons Since January 2017 talks have included ‘The Peregrine Project at at Derby Cathedral Bees the the history of of DRI 49
years in in in in in in broadcasting Transferable Skills – a a a a a a a a a a a a a a life of of making defibrillator training Recycling a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a visit to to Mr Straw’s house planned events include afternoon tea ‘Toys and and Games through the the Ages’ Vital Steps Forward and and Holistic Therapies before our Christmas lunch this year at at at the the the Gate Inn Sutton We anticipate putting together an an an an an equally varied and and and interesting programme in in in in 2018 and and and beyond and and and welcome suggestions as to to what people would like to to hear or do Everyone is is welcome It costs £3 and and and and includes tea and and and and biscuits and and and time to relax meet people and and and chat Villages Together is supported by Blue Skies Community Initiative Contact details in HEDS BLUE SKIES COMMUNITY INITIATIVE
Where do do do I start and what don’t we do?
We are a a a a a a a a a a a a voluntary community group formed eleven years ago to address issues of rural isolation in the villages and communities which have schools that feed into the Elizabethan Academy in in Retford One of our key activities is Blue Skies Holiday Club run for for for two weeks every summer holiday mainly for for primary school aged children and and up to 14
We plan and and and organise various fun activity days in in different communities and and and often put on transport to to to collect children from from the the the the villages and and bring them together to to to have fun with children from from different schools as as well as as their friends Over the years we have run Health projects a a a a a a a a a successful field- walking project project in in in in Mattersey resulting in in in in a a a a a a a a a a a beautiful mosaic made by members of the the community and the the school Recent activities in Everton have been the the creation of the the school school and and churchyard orchard projects with a a a a a a a a a a a a lovely Apple Day and and and centenary celebrations at at the the the school school school where we we strive to to foster positive links between the the the the school school school and and the the the the community There used to to to to to be be be an an an an an orchard in in in in the the the school school grounds long gone and and it it has been pleasing to to to to restore it it and and also to to to to plant trees in in in the the churchyard near the the wild flower meadow Because we we are are a a a a a a a a a community organisation we we can access funding for for for communities for for for which schools are are ineligible and this is is one of our strengths We have accessed Tesco Bags for for for for Life funding funding funding Awards for for All Lottery Lottery Funding Funding Heritage Lottery Lottery Funding Funding Arts funding funding funding and Notts C C C C funding funding funding amongst other sources to support our our activities However we we we are are volunteers and and as such are are limited in in in in in capacity so so so would welcome offer of of of help from people interesting in in in in in giving some of of of their time and and skills to benefit our community
