 Scene I: Sing Out
Enter ELWIN
ELWIN It’s not the way I thought it’d be. I haven’t seen what I thought I’d see, and everyday looks a little different. Everyday looks a little strange.
I held your hand your hand through smoke; couldn’t see the fire from your throat. How could I mistake the beast for a damsel in distress?
Sing out from your soul, and I pray God hears you. Sing out from your soul because I’m not list’n.
My heart won’t be broke. I’ll forget the words you spoke; until that day comes, when you come crawling back to me.
And when the sun rises that day and you’re touched by the rays. You can find me where you left me, standing all alone.
Sing out from your soul, and I pray God hears you. Sing out from your soul because I’m still list’n.
Scene II: Oubliette
EWIN Locked inside your oubliette. Is this how love pays its debt? When the well of your heart ran dry, was your conscious satisfied?
Brick by brick built the wall, till’ I couldn’t see you at all.
Forgetting truth bears a heavy price; in regret you’d take my life.
But put your drink down. I think you’re numb enough now to love me like you do. It’s not me that’s hurting, darling, it’s you—it’s always been you.
Day and night come and go, but it’s only the dark that I know. I’ve become quite content with the dark when it was your light that broke my heart.
Does it even matter to you. Everything was goin’ alright. I was in it for the long haul; that’s more than I can say for you. You were only in it for the night.
But put your drink down. I think you’re numb enough now to love me like you do. It’s not me that’s hurting, darling, it’s you—it’s always been you.
Scene III: Lies
Enter DARCY & CHAELOCK
DARCY Why have you walked away? I have loved you through all. You held my world in your hands. Now you stand to watch me fall. Only you could lie so well
CHAELOCK Put your heart in the cloth tied to the pole on your shoulder. Drag your feet down the road for ev’ry lie that you told her. She de-serves the truth from you
You’re paving roads of black, telling the world it’s gold. She believed your story, followed the lies you told.
Her white dress turned grey falling down your road. Take your coals in your hands and walk alone the road you know.
CHAELOCK & DARCY. Are you safe in your place? Shame will find your bed at night, behind your eyes and under your flesh, till your dreams become frights. Only you could lie so well.
Exit ELWIN & DARCY
