and durable because it will be used to tie off sharp
boulders and trees, and it will usually run over the
cliff’s edge. A 35m length of 10mm to 11mm nylon
rope with less than 5 percent elongation for climbing-
related loads would be ideal. These kinds of ropes gen-
erally have tensile strength of over 5,000 pounds.
Cordellette
This text also will describe smaller diameter cords and
cordellette for use in anchoring systems. A 7mm nylon
cord of 5 to 6m length will be more than adequate.
Remember, one of the easiest ways to decrease the
elongation of a rope system is to double (or triple)
the amount of rope. If one strand of 7mm cord, for
example, has a manufactured elongation of 9 percent
