Proverbs 1:1                                  475                             Proverbs 2:21


                                                                 cometh like sudden desolation, and your destruc-
                                                                 tion shall come like a whirle wind: whe affliction
                             The Proverbs                        and anguish shall come vpon you,   28  Then shall
                                                                 they call vpon me, but I will not answere: they
                                                                 shall seeke me early, but they shall not finde me,

               shall attayne vnto wise counsels, To vnderstand   me, shall dwell safely, and be quiet from feare of

               Lord is the beginning of knowledge: but fooles      1  My sonne, if thou wilt receiue my wordes,
               despise wisedome and instruction.   8  My sonne, and hide my commandements within thee, And

               heare thy fathers instruction, and forsake not thy cause thine eares to hearken vnto wisdome, and
               mothers teaching.    9  For they shalbe a comely encline thine heart to vnderstanding,    3  (For if
               ornament vnto thine head, and as chaines for thy thou callest after knowledge, and cryest for vn-
               necke.  10  My sonne, if sinners doe intise thee, derstanding:  4  If thou seekest her as siluer, and
               consent thou not.   11  If they say, Come with vs, searchest for her as for treasures,  5  Then shalt
               we will lay waite for blood, and lie priuilie for thou vnderstand the feare of the Lord, and finde
               the innocent without a cause:  12 We wil swallow  the knowledge of God.     6  For the Lord giueth
               them vp aliue like a graue euen whole, as those wisdome, out of his mouth commeth knowledge
               that goe downe into the pit:  13 We shall finde all and vnderstanding.  7  He preserueth the state
               precious riches, and fill our houses with spoyle: of the righteous: he is a shielde to them that

               14  Cast in thy lot among vs: we will all haue one walke vprightly, That they may keepe the wayes
               purse:  15 My sonne, walke not thou in the way of iudgement: and he preserueth the way of
               with them: refraine thy foote from their path. his Saintes) Then shalt thou vnderstand righ-

               16 For their feete runne to euill, and make haste to teousnes, and iudgement, and equitie, and euery
               shed blood.  17 Certainely as without cause the net good path.  10 When wisdome entreth into thine
               is spred before the eyes of all that hath wing:  18 So heart, and knowledge deliteth thy soule,  11 Then
               they lay waite for blood and lie priuily for their shall counsell preserue thee, and vnderstanding
               liues.  19 Such are the wayes of euery one that is shall keepe thee,  12 And deliuer thee from the eu-
               greedy of gaine: he would take away the life of ill way, and from the man that speaketh froward
               the owners thereof.  20  Wisdome cryeth without: things,  13 And from them that leaue the wayes of
               she vttereth her voyce in the streetes.   21  She righteousnes to walke in the wayes of darkenes:
               calleth in the hye streete, among the prease in   14 Which reioyce in doing euill, and delite in the
               the entrings of the gates, and vttereth her wordes frowardnesse of the wicked,  15 Whose wayes are
               in the citie, saying,  22  O ye foolish, howe long crooked and they are lewde in their paths.  16 And
               will ye loue foolishnes? and the scornefull take it shall deliuer thee from the strange woman,
               their pleasure in scorning, and the fooles hate euen from the stranger, which flattereth with
               knowledge?   23 (Turne you at my correction: loe, I her wordes.  17 Which forsaketh the guide of her
               will powre out my mind vnto you, and make you youth, and forgetteth the couenant of her God.
               vnderstand my wordes)   24 Because I haue called,  18  Surely her house tendeth to death, and her
               and ye refused: I haue stretched out mine hand, paths vnto the dead.     19  All they that goe vnto
               and none woulde regarde.  25 But ye haue despised her, returne not againe, neither take they holde
               allmycounsell, andwouldnoneofmycorrection. of the wayes of life.       20  Therefore walke thou in
