Methoni castle
The castle of Methoni - essentially a
castle-city - is one of the most
important and most beautiful in
Greece. It was built by the Venetians
when they became masters of the city
in 1209. It is built in a strategic position,
on a rock that penetrates the sea and
is separated from the land by an
artificial moat.
