stemmed from Alva’s knowledge of, and experience in the area.

7. Carrie Lillian Armstrong
Various sources differ as to whether Carrie L. (known as Lillian) was a
newborn at the time her parents and brothers and sisters moved from
Vermont to Michigan, or born shortly after their arrival. Based on my
research, it appears likely that she was born after her family’s arrival in
Michigan, as she is not shown in the 1850 Michigan U. S. Census.
We do not have a birth date for her, nor does her tombstone show a
death date. However, an entry in her father’s medical account book on
Aug. 28, 1853 states: “Our babe Lillian died this day at 10 o’clock in
morning.” Lillian’s tomb is located next to that of her older sister, Sarah,
Tombstone of Carrie L. Armstrong in the Parma Cemetery.
