Stir Crazy
Adventures in Computer Drinking
This is a great time to show off all the stuff in your house, let’s call them props now. Also, look to the stage and screen for theatrical flourishes, otherwise known as lies. Any beverage on the chat screen can be whatever you say it is. A clear liquid with a twist of lemon in a cocktail glass might be water or maybe something stronger, or you can introduce a glass of everyday brandy as rare X.O. somethingorother. Behold the magic of television.
We have a few drink ideas for you, should you care to stray from the usual. Would you like to indulge in a classic? Try a Marconi Wireless. Two parts applejack, one part sweet ver- mouth, a dash of orange bitters, and frappé. It’s basically an icy applejack Manhattan. We found the recipe in our cocktail library’s 1931 copy of Old Waldorf Bar Days.
There is an honest to goodness Quarantine Cocktail in
the 1927 edition of Here’s How by Judge Junior. The recipe is a little complicated, but we all have some extra time to spend. It takes 1/3 oz. of light rum, 1 oz. lemon juice, 1/2 oz. gin, 1/4 oz. dry vermouth, three spoonfuls bar sugar and the white of an egg. Shake and strain into a cocktail glass.
