BROTHERS & SISTERS
of
JOHN ELON FOY
JOHN ELON FOY, the patriarch of the CISCO CLAN, had five brothers and six sisters. You can
see a list of those brothers and sisters beside the name BENJAMIN FRANKLIN FOY, who was
JOHN’s father, on page Preface 15. Many of the FOYS now living in Texas are descendants of
JOHN’s brothers and sisters and, thus, are direct relatives of members of the CISCO CLAN. The
following pages contain information gathered by other FOY researchers regarding JOHN’s brothers
and sisters and their descendants. Information will be added to this section as it is received.
Genealogy fans are always looking for a better way to display family relationships. Many of us are
visual learners; that is, we learn and remember better when we can see a picture or a chart of
whatever it is we are studying. Computer soft ware designers have attempted to develop “family line
or family tree charts” which attempt to show family relationships among long lists of individuals.
None of these designers, in my opinion, have been successful in designing a chart which will
immediately, upon first glance, give the viewer a complete idea of relationships. A viewer of any
chart has to study and understand the design of a chart in order to “get the picture”. I have tried
several times to design a really simple and understandable chart but have found my efforts are no
better than anyone else’s.
The basic chart which will be used on the following pages to show relationships will use the following
symbols:
-m- indicates “married”. Thus BENJAMIN FRANKLIN FOY -m- ELIZABETH WHITE means
BENJAMIN married ELIZABETH. Sometimes, if known, a date will be placed beside the -
m- in parentheses to indicate the year the couple was married.
( or some similar symbol indicates the list of children born from the marriage above. That list
will be indented to the right of the beginning of the parent’s names and will be in the order
each individual was born. Each succeeding generation list will be further indented to the
right. Often vertical lines are drawn on charts to indicate generations of people. One can
