While the hospital building construction was still
going on, the Sisters stayed with the Franciscan

Sisters van Dongen, the only Religious Sisters in
the whole province at that time. Immediately, af-

ter their arrival, the sisters opened a health clinic
which kept them busy besides making the nec-

essary preparations for the hospital.

The hospital was ready for operation by Febru-

ary 23, 1970 and was blessed on February 24, Site of the Construction of the first building
1970 by the Bishop who gave the name “Rumah

Sakit Suaka Insan” which means “Refuge of Hu-
manity Hospital.” The Sisters had to overcome a

lot of challenges, but it was very clear, even from
the very start that the Lord was on their side

supporting them with His abundant blessings.

A big thanks to God’s Divine Providence who in-
spired Mgr. Demarteau to invite the SPC Congre-

gation and for the generosity of the first mis-
sionary sisters who began a big work of charity
in Indonesia. Sisters had to help carry the stones for

the construction of the building
