Dear all,
Welcome to this, the 10th AB Sugar Leadership Forum. As we’re operating in extraordinary times, we’re having to hold this year’s forum remotely, and even though we won’t be talking face to face, I know we will still have a great experience. As with every year I’m sure you will invest your usual energy and enthusiasm into the sessions, allowing us all to positively interact together, share our experiences and learnings, and reconfirm our longer-term agenda.
We have learnt a lot through the experience of the last seven months and I have been encouraged with how you have actively shared your learnings, allowing us all to operate even more effectively within the current pandemic environment and also rethink how we will operate in the future. This links nicely to the strap line for this year’s forum which is ‘Delivering through resilience and creativity’. Throughout the course of the next two days I would like us to raise our sights beyond the current situation and look forward to increasing our delivery in the years ahead. I expect these discussions will include:
• Linking more explicitly and intimately with customers and growers.
• Improving the robustness and sustainability of our operations.
• Strengthening the capability and resilience of our teams and operating systems.
• Cultivating the positive perception of our businesses in the communities in which we operate.
We have achieved so much in recent years for which you should be proud. Likewise, I also recognise that all of us at some point have overcome significant challenges and disappointments. Even though there will be further challenges ahead, if we continue to leverage our competitive advantage by being part of a group as well as directing our energy towards our priorities, I know that we’ll extend our position of being a truly remarkable business.
