Khumbo joined Illovo Sugar (Malawi) plc on 1 August 2018 as Organisation Development Specialist, and later served as Organisational Effectiveness Manager before being appointed as HR Director for Illovo Sugar Malawi. Khumbo played an instrumental role in both the design and the implementation of the Illovo New Operating Model and led the workforce transition team in country.

One of her key achievements since joining Illovo has been the provision and delivery of change management expertise, supporting the launch of Project Tisinthe (a strategic project for the Malawi business), various Tisinthe projects and the Operating Model design and implementation. She was also the first chairperson of the Illovo Africa Millennial Board, a team that looked at tackling the role Illovo plays in its community.

Khumbo is a Certified Talent Practitioner (CTP); a holder of a Masters in HR, a Bachelor of Arts - Industrial Psychology among other qualifications. She is married to Chikondi Banda and together, they have two sons, Adrian and Daniel.
