            Peiping [Beijing]
            circa 1928-1949

Probably one of the strangest Chinese silver marks, even after considerable research, it is still unclear quite
what or who this mark refers to.

It only appears on jewellery and obviously, from the mark [above] only appears
on jewellery that came from Beijing. The “ee” part of the mark bears an uncanny
resemblance to the font style of ‘No.23 Sycee’ silver mark that also appears on
silver jewellery from the same period.

The name ‘Peiping” while a historic name for Beijing was the official name the
city was changed to on 28 June 1928 and it stayed that way until 1949. Peiping was also the Wade-Giles
pronunciation of the name for Peking. on this basis. One can therefore assume that any silver jewellery carrying
this mark would date somewhere between those dates.

This coral and silver cuff bracelet
                                                                             carries this mark, probably dating
                                                                             from the early 1930’s.
