In January 2015 an entirely new Research Institute was established at Tsinghua
University in Beijing. This is the first centre in the world to have such a specific
focus and will be the home-base for all future research headed by Adrien von
Ferscht.

‘THE ABSENCE OF AN ASSAY SYSTEM, HOW CHINA, A SILVER-OBSESSED
NATION, MANAGED WITHOUT ONE’ is the first official research project undertaken
at the new institute. Using data originally published by Janice Carlson at Winterthur
Museum, Delaware, USA in 1993 but putting it in context of what is known to us now
about Chinese Export Silver and the mining and trading of silver to China in the
context of world trade in the 16th and 17th centuries.
