A circa 1890 silver cyma-form filigree card case carrying the
MK silver mark. While some might find it strange to find such
an item in the MK inventory, the fact that M.K. had a reputation
for creating ceremonial objects such as rosewater sprinklers
and the besamim spice box indicates that it is highly likely
M.K. had a Jewish Chinese artisan silversmith creating them.
Since silver filigree was an art that Jewish silversmiths practised, especially those that had come originally from
Sassania [Iran] to Kaifeng, they would have come with this skill. Chinese silver filigree work was continuous
from the time Jews settled in Kaifeng in the Sung Dynasty until the early 20th century.
