There  is  nothing  unusual  in  any  of  this  other
                than  the  fact  these  tureens  were  offered  at
                auction  by  an  American  auction  house,
                catalogued as being early 20th century Chinese
                Export  Silver  and  were  sold  as  such.  The
                auction  house  even  declared  their  weight  as
                being 777gm; a fact that is totally irrelevant to
                any Paktong item.


                The inability of most Western auction houses to
                understand  that  simply  because  an  item  that
                looks  like  silver  and  carries  a  Chinese  mark
                doesn’t  automatically  mean  it  is  Chinese  is
                worrying. It is also confusing and misleading for
                clients
