This is an interesting presentation ‘tyg’ that carries the Ying Wo mark. Firstly, it shows a presentation piece
carrying an inscription for Shanghai that had been made and acquired in Hong Kong. Shanghai had a large
number of retail silversmiths, many of them capable of creating a cup of the same high quality.
The style of this cup is Art Nouveau, but yet again the inscription is confusing in that it uses the dates
1899-1924. The Art Nouveau or ‘jugendstil’ movements date from 1890-1914. One might deduce from this that
the cup was probably made circa 1910 and for reasons unknown was used later in 1924 for this particular
presentation.
