                                                                jadeite box and cover carved with lotus flower heads; a
                                                                bowenite vase and cover carved with a loose ‘puzzle ball’
                                                                sleeve and four loose-ring handles; a grey and cream jade
                                                                flattened baluster vase and cover carved with archaistic
                                                                designs, woods stand. The vase: 21.5cm (8 1/2in) high
                                                                (8).

A small soapstone carving of the Dragon
Taming Luohan
17th/18th century
Natimitolo Arhat carved seated at ease in long robes, the
face with intense bulging eyes below a shaved pate, the
left hand cradling a small dragon; together with a green
and mottled russet jade horse, and a very pale green jade
pendant plaque carved in low relief with scholars taking
wine.

                                                                                                                   The first flattened baluster vase carved in relief and
                                                                                                                   openwork with scrolling flowers and birds, with lingzhi
                                                                                                                   handles flanking the neck, the lid with a phoenix finial,
                                                                                                                   the second vase of cylindrical baluster form and the third
                                                                                                                   smaller flattened baluster vase similarly carved, each stone
                                                                                                                   of a pure, even transparency.
