PAINTED IN COLOURS UNDER THE GLAZE.

symbols, with the leaf and a parcel of books below. The
other reserve is a tree with two
                    occupied by apparently prunus
birds and three insects. The neck is divided into three, the
lower ornamented four the collar with
           part being by symbols,
joo-e heads, and the top part with four stems with flower heads.
Good pieces of this style belong to the Kang-he period (1661-
1722). This bottle has been slightly ground down at the top,
probably to get rid of a chip in the edge of the lip.
         No. 233. Beaker vase.
                              Height, 17| inches; diameter, top

      of this vase covered with
         triangle diaper-work, is entirely
trellis-work, in which are four reserves, top and bottom, decorated
      with the immortals. This
eight pattern is not at all uncommon,
but some of the are much better in
                     pieces quality than others,
and their value varies Most of them
                           accordingly. probably
      belong to the eighteenth century.
