A PAINTED WOOD FIGURE OF A LUOHAN
YUAN-MING DYNASTY (1279-1644)
The fgure wearing a belted robe with raised
decorative borders is shown seated with left hand
resting on his knee. His face is carved with deep
wrinkles framing his mouth and chin and with long
eyebrows turned down at the ends. The characters
xi bei yi (northwest number 1) are painted in black
on the back. There are traces of green, red, white
and black pigments.
