A LARGE RED FELT-GROUND EMBROIDERED PANEL
19TH CENTURY
The panel depicts a central scene of the Emperor and Empress in a pavilion
seated in front of a banquet table, each with an attendant behind them holding
peacock fans, and with two fgures prostrated before them. Assorted court
fgures in dragon robes and civil oficial’s robes and groups of ladies are
standing in and outside of the pagoda bearing gifts, amidst deer, cranes, and a
pine tree in the distance, all on a bright red felt ground and with details picked
out in gold and silver-wrapped threads and Peking knot.
