A JIZHOU PAINTED JAR AND COVER
SOUTHERN SONG-YUAN DYNASTY, 13TH-14TH CENTURY
The body is painted on either side with a quadrilobed panel of a leaping stag, the two separated by
large leafy fower sprays below a plain band on the narrow, sloping shoulder and classic scroll on the
neck, all in brown on a white slip under a clear glaze. The slightly domed cover is centered by a fower
sprig within an outer border of key scroll.
