AN IMPRESSIVE PAIR OF POLYCHROME LACQUER STANDS

The square tops are set above open-work bands of scrolling lotus tendrils. The tall ‘chain-link’ legs
emanate from open-work geometric designs ending on elaborate S-shaped scrolls linked by further
open-work geometric motifs. The canted bases have a central round aperture with similar designs. Each
is painted all over in red and decorated in shades of black with foral designs. The tops are decorated with
two birds perched on rocks and peony branches.
