A MARBLE MODEL OF A HORSE AND GROOM
Tang Dynasty or later
The equine carved with a broad, powerful body and long mane, the
head turned downwards to bite the right foot, flanked with a standing
groom with a chignon hairstyle, wearing a tunic and holding a box,
fitted hardwood stand. 29cm (11 3/8in) wide (2).

A LIMESTONE HEAD OF GUANYIN
Tang Dynasty
The Bodhisattva’s face carved with serene expression, with downcast
eyes a small mouth and long earlobes, the hair coiffured into a coiled
chignon and set with a tiara, square marble base. 30.5cm (12in) high
(2).

See a larger but comparable limestone head of Guanyin, dated
Tang Dynasty, sold at Sotheby’s New York, 15 September 2010, lot
298. Also compare with a stylistically similar head from Longmen,
illustrated in Ancient Chinese Buddhist Sculpture. The C. K. Chan
Collection, Taipei, 1989, cat. no. 9.

A RETICULATED AMBER ‘EIGHT IMMORTALS AND SHOULAO’
BRUSH WASHER
Qing Dynasty
Decorated with an openwork scene of the Eight Immortals and
Shoulao, attended by a monkey and deer, gathering in a pine grove
above reticulated rockwork.
