of oblong form, the two longer sides each carved with an archaistic taotie in low relief, the top with a pair of C-scrolls flanking two
ruyi-shaped brackets centering a circle, pierced at the ends to secure a hairpin, the stone a pale grayish-celadon with faint russet
veining to one side

Catalogue Note
The present piece is rare for its form and decoration, as other hair ornaments from the Ming dynasty usually feature scalloped or
round tops with plain surfaces. For example, see two illustrated in Studies of the National Museum of China: Jades / Zhongguo guo
