the striding immortal carved in a dynamic posture with the head raised high and turned to the left, the face contorted into a gentle
grimace above a finely incised beard, with tufts of curled hair beneath the bald crown, wearing long flowing robes fastened with
long tassels suspended from the waist, its voluminous folds sweeping around him as if caught by the wind, the right arm raised to
support a large peach gathered in the robes, the pale green stone with occasional opaque white and fine speckled grey inclusions

Catalogue Note
Although Dongfang Shuo is depicted in the quintessential act of stealing a peach of longevity, the present carving is notable for the
inclusion of a singular oversized fruit. Most other carvings of Dongfang Shuo depict the immortal carrying a branch of peaches and
a double gourd.
