          Shaykh ‘Abd al-Wahhab bin Ahmad al-Sha’rani was a

          prolific and important scholar and historian of Sufism

          of Ottoman Egypt. The present work comprises a
 (D. 1753): LEHÇETÜ'L-LÜGAT  treatise aiming to reassert the essential unity of the four   13
 OTTOMAN TURKEY, 18TH CENTURY
          madhahib by arguing that their precepts were derived
 Dictionary, Ottoman Turkish, Arabic and Persian   from the same Source of Law (‘ayn al-shari’a). The title

 This text is the most famous dictionary of Turkish   AL-BIHAR
 into Arabic and Persian, written by Shaykh al-Islam   SIGNED 'ALI BIN MAHMUD, OTTOMAN TURKEY,
 Mehmed Es’ad Efendi (d. 1753). He was the son of   DATED 23SAFAR AH 1073/ 7 OCTOBER 1662 AD
