A SUIT OF ARMOR WITH A NUINOBE CIURASS
The helmet bowl Muromachi period (1336-1573), 15th century, the
armor Edo period (1615-1868), 18th century
The component parts lacquered red and laced in light green and brown,
comprising a 26-plate iron suji kabuto with a low, wide profile in the style
of Kamakura-period hachi, the low suji and exposed rivets showing much
wear and bearing a deep chocolate-brown patina, finished on the crown
with a wide four-stage tehen kanamono, the bowl fitted with a three-lame
solid-plate shikoro ending in large fukigaeshi applied with leather and copper
hishi heraldic crests, the front adorned with a metal dragonfly maedate, the
articulated wings highlighted with aogai; the hanbo finished in an ishime
surface and fitted with a three-lame yodarekake laced in dark blue; the
ni-mai nuinobe do of iron scales covered in light brown fabric with seven
sections of five-lame kusazari; Etchu-gote and haidate; shino-suneate; one
armor stand and one storage box
